Families Explore & Get Fit in Hardberger Park
Wednesday, August 11, 2010

The hot August temperatures didn’t keep them away. Families from across San Antonio, laced up their sneakers as the Fit Family Challenge took a “Walk in Hardberger Park,” August 4-6, 2010.

Wearing, caps, comfy shoes, beaming smiles and carrying bottled water, families of all ages hiked the new park’s Geology Loop enjoying the sights while getting fit.

“The Fit Family Challenge really wants to show families that there are a variety of ways to build and maintain fit, healthy lives,” said San Antonio Sports’ Mary Ullmann Japhet.

“We are thrilled to see so many families out here and that they have their fitness journals tracking their activities,” said Japhet.

Dawnell Bates is tracking her family’s exercise with the Fit Family Journal she pulled from the San Antonio Express-News insert in July.

“I walk to get fit and I want to lead by example,” said Bates. “We live in Kirby and I wanted my kids to spend time walking with me in Hardberger Park, rather than sitting in front of the television,” she added.

There is still plenty of time to join the Fit Family Challenge and find a free event near you.
