San Antonio Families Give The Fit Family Challenge Rave Reviews The San Antonio Sports’ Fit Family Challenge kicked off on Saturday, May 1. One month later, families are telling us the Fit Family Challenge is working for them. The Morin Family writes: “We started this program three weeks ago and I myself have lost ten pounds in three weeks. My kids are eating better. They are not even asking for candy or soda or chips. My three kids ages 8, 5 and 2 now ask us if they can eat something and whether or not it is healthy. We have developed an insurmountable closeness and do things we have never done before. We are all dancing together thanks to zumba and the Fit Family Challenge. We are going to the park more frequently and playing baseball together as a family. We look forward to finishing this challenge and creating a new lifestyle.” The Perez Family is seeing great results: “Our first event at Southwest Independent School District was a zumba class. Me (28), my sons 8 and 10, and my nephew (12) and his sister (9) enjoyed the class lots!!!! I took my niece and nephew with me because I know the Fit Family Challenge is better than watching television. They loved the class. My kids keep asking when is the next event and if we can invite other cousins too!!!!” The Fit Family Challenge is changing the way people live. The Guevara Family tells us how they are making positive changes: “What have I done differently since joining the Fit Family Challenge? Well, I truly thought I had no time to work out. I realized if I just changed a few habits, I could make time. Luckily I live close to work, so I go home during lunch and pull out whatever meat I plan to cook that night. Doing this has allowed me to make dinner sooner, leaving some extra time after. My family now walks after dinner around our apartment complex. My two year old is active enough, so we keep him quiet with a popsicle while me and my daughter take turns pushing the stroller. It really works the muscles and my son loves when we run with him in it. I also find myself paying closer attention to what we eat and how much. I’ve replaced cookies and cupcakes as dessert, with fruit. Rather than letting the kids have the whole box of snacks while watching television, I use the cupcake cups and only let them have what fits in one. Since the initial kickoff parade, we added a new dog to our family and that keeps us running even more. This experience has done more than just keep us fit. It’s also improved our family quality time and helped me stop working out my wallet on daily lunches out.” DETAILS: San Antonio Sports created the Fit Family Challenge to improve the health of San Antonio families through family friendly physical activity and nutrition.
