The story of H-E-B began 100 years ago in a tiny family shop in Kerrville. Today H-E-B serves families all over Texas and Mexico with over 300 stores and 75,000 Partners (employees). H-E-B's commitment to excellence has made it one of the nations largest independently owned food retailers. Yet H-E-B's success has not changed its commitment to giving the customer exceptional service, low prices and friendly shopping. The mission of The Health Collaborative is: To improve the health status of the community through collaborative means.

The Health Collaborative began informally in 1997 when the city’s major healthcare organizations agreed to put aside their competitive business practices to conduct a comprehensive health needs assessment. The evolution in 2000 to an incorporated entity with a long-range strategic plan is in response to the founding members’ interest in improving the health status of the community by working together.

The Health Collaborative has developed into a powerful network of citizens, community organizations and businesses. The result is a more robust, less duplicative, more synergistic approach to solving critical community health needs, while efficiently utilizing resources.

Phil Hardberger Park is an oasis in the heart of San Antonio’s north side. It is an island of green in a sea of urban development. The 311-acre former dairy farm is San Antonio’s newest city park – and the largest to be opened here since the 1800s. Phil Hardberger Park is named after the former San Antonio mayor whose passion for open space drove the city’s charge to purchase the property, and who now leads the effort to ensure the park’s ambitious master plan is realized.
